Mexico swine flu deaths as many as 159

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – The death toll in Mexico from an outbreak of a new type of swine flu has risen to as many as 159 people, Health Minister Jose Angel Cordova said on Tuesday.

Cordova told a news conference that more than 1,300 people were in hospitals, some of them “seriously” ill, out of a total of around 2,500 suspected cases of the virus.

The number of fatalities was up by 10 from the previous day, although Cordova said many of the deaths have not been definitively attributed to the swine flu. Some victims died and were buried or cremated before the virus was spotted and could be tested.

London: Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan has flown to India from South Africa to cast his vote in the 2009 general elections. Actress Shilpa Shetty regrets that she won’t be able to exercise her franchise this time because of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

‘I just regret the fact that I won’t be in India to cast my vote; I really wanted to this time. Elections have to be taken seriously if you are a responsible citizen. Unfortunately with the unexpected turn of events and the IPL being shifted to SA it’s become difficult. Football infrastructure going backwards: Bhaichung Bhutia

KOLKATA: Indian football captain Bhaichung Bhutia on Wednesday said the infrastructure is “going backwards” even as the standard of the game is improving in the country.

“The standard of the game has gone up. The quality has improved with the coming of I-League. The competition is stiff now but the worst part is that infrastructure has not changed.

“The ground condition is not improving. If you look at the first National League and the present one, the infrastructure has gone backwards. We really need to work on that,” the ace national striker said.

SSLC results will be out on Saturday

The results of the March 2009 SSLC results will be announced on May 2. As many as 8.58 lakh students appeared for the examinations this year. Of these, 4.64 lakh are boys and 3.94 lakh are girls. These students wrote the exam in 2,762 centres across the state. (Times Of India).
